INTRODUCTION OF “MEDIA STUDIES & APPRECIATION” AS AN ELECTIVE SUBJECT AT SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL LEVEL BY MANAV STHALI SCHOOL

Manav Sthali School has always aimed at nurturing leaders of the future and has always given the students a platform to pursue their interests and make them reach cherishable heights. The school’s commitment to promotion of various activities such as Academics, Sports, Biotechnology, Fashion Studies and others has widely been acknowledged and has encouraged the students to come up with a difference. The school is once again pioneer in introducing ‘Media Studies and Appreciation’ as an elective subject at senior secondary level for the session 2010-2011. The subject is introduced by the Central board of Secondary Education as a pilot project in a few selected schools of Delhi and NCR.

The course is very interactive and includes basic knowledge about the various softwares and stages of production like reporting, composition, writing, editing, variably for Television, Print, Radio, Internet, Advertising, Journalism, Public Relations and so on. It will help the students analyse the media, understand the ethics of the media as well as what the media encodes. It will be successful in producing and developing skillful thinking individuals in the society. The aim is to make the students aware about the career opportunities from working as a journalist, editor, writer, public relations officer, creative director, radio jockey, video jockey, television anchors, producers, etc, to running a production house, ad agency or a news channel of their own, wherein they can help the job-hunters by giving them an opportunity to work with them and thus contribute to overcome the evil of ‘unemployment ’. The students can also pursue several distinct career paths in the course of their professional lives, sometimes “inventing” new jobs for themselves as technologies and industries change and hence, exploring a number of career options for the generations ahead which would help strengthen the economic growth and development of the country indeed.

With a well equipped audio-visual and technological infrastructure at the school, the students would be able to develop themselves with appropriate tools of creativity and would be exposed to the upcoming world of Media to grow as true media professionals.
